Das Naturzeichnen for den Schul-und Selbstunterricht, Peter Schmid
This is a four volume manual for the teaching of drawing by Peter Schmid. Schmid settles in Berlin and is asked to reorganize the local system for the training of drawing teachers. In 1833, becomes Royal Professor of Drawing. In the manual, he advocates a system of drawing in which students should draw from objects and not through images. He will become an influence for Horace Mann when, in 1839, Mann visits Prussia. Mann, who was editor of the Common School Journal will promote, in 1844, Schmid's system of drawing in the journal, reproducing plates from Schmid's publication.
